TURBOKILL

Okay first hey everyone, i had a great time at the first ever Erie Library Comic Con in the old erie, pennsylvania, i gotta say thanks to Sean McGrath for putting together an awesome show and the library folks up there for hosting the whole thing. And of course thanks to all the people that came, local erie folks and foreigners too!

Anyways, I'm currently putting together my best comic ever, it's called Turbokill, some people got generic flying discs with the logo, and some people did not. So that's what the above is about. I'm holding off detailing too much right now, cause it'll be best when you're all just overwhelmed by the whole thing. It's going to be violent and weird and surreal.

Also it's going to be a videogame. That's all I can say for now, but here's a pretty rough gif of one of the characters dancing and grabbing their gun. well, really rough puts it mildly. anyways, keep an eye here as I am able to tell y'all what the deal is on everything. Platforms, musicians involved, all that good stuff.

Oh an also if you follow my tweeter you probs saw that i'm doing a comic with the surrealist writer Paul Jessup, and it's gonna be called The Truth and is sort of like a comic and sorta like a tv sitcom, it's gonna be pretty nuts, but safe for those with nut allergies.

Paul's a great guy and has numerous books about exploding stars and their lovers, girls trapped in glass coffins and giants and all sorts of things, go look at his web stuff http://pauljessup.com/

RELAUNCH! ARE YOU READY?!?!?

yeah.

so i haven't updated here in a minute, and also have dropped my popular pen name (bernard crowsheet) and am just using my actual name, and haven't put any new comix up in a little bit either. really the last thing anyone might have seen was that my space jam fan fiction thing with lebron james in it is a free download as a pdf on gumroad.

Yeah, it's still there, go get it, it's free

anyways, super awesome comics is undergoing a major makeover, so bear (bare?) with me, i'll be starting a new comic that i'm promising will be violent and obnoxious and filled with things you don't want your parents to see. or maybe you do, i don't know your parents (cept your mom! ha!)

so that's that for now. get ready for Relaunch!

Buffalo Small Press Book Fair!

I will have a table here and being doing free sketches and have a box of mini-comics I have made, from my all ages stuff like Dinosaur Mystery Comics and Esther Egg to the definately not for kids Zombi bin Laden and some new stuff I'm still working on. I will also have some original framed paintings of different characters, Spider-Man, Daredevil and a few others. If you live in or near Buffalo come check it out and pick up some great books! http://www.buffalosmallpress.org/

Also I am going to do illustrated interviews with other cartoonists and writers and creative types. If any of you ever saw the interview with Paul Pope that he illustrated back in the early nineties in Advance Comics then you'll know what I'm talking about. If, more than likely, you never saw that, well it was really cool, made comics alive for me and showed what comics could be. Too often you say comics and people just think superheros or garfield, and while I have nothing against either of those things, comics are so much more than that.

explains Zombi bin Laden

well Just thought I should throw out some clarification. I'm starting a daily comic strip today, called "Zombi bin Laden" and I am throwing it out under the banner of satire. I plan to use daily news items as the jumping off point for my social commentary. Crowsheet Studios is the name of my comics studio (aka. my basement) so I thought what better way to start things off than with a daily grind news comic strip thing. You guys and girls into that sorta thing? I hope so. If not I guess someone will be along to smash my hands!

Turtles & Coffinmouth

If you haven't seen it already, go check out Coffinmouth I did the cover and the Important Sheet comic in it. Paul Jessup is awesome.

So i doodled this today while chatting with the Chippy & Loopus guy while he drawed his comic on livestream, i spent too much time saturday night on youtube arguing with trolls about the wall street protests, and still felt angry today. i guess angry is the right thing to be in a time like this, who can be happy watching news and then seeing what it really happening?
The strip here is just Jet Black Extra Smooth Ebony pencil i have, except for the inked box at the top left. I dunno what i'm doing with it, something more? I can't say, I got a lot to do in the next couple weeks, and i really need to start a weekly comic, something to fall back on, something to hold onto rather than just jumping from thing to thing.

So I gotta work on sequential storytelling, these are my sheety pencils, hard to see, and no blacks. Gotta clean the garage floor cause the dog peed out there, then sling some ink on these. Maybe even name the thing and color it.

The Cursed Black Walnut

The chikump came over while i sat outside smoking, ran away, came back, repeated this several times then came over with a black walnut, and tenderly came near me, dropped the walnut and ran away, climbing up on the railing, then back down over to pick up the walnut, i looked down at him, he looked at me, he dropped the walnut again, but this time left it spinning. Some days later I found his head while cleaning the backyard, i assumed a victim of yellow cat. the walnut sits in a drawer and gives me bad dreams.

Black Orchid Watercolored

Put this one aside for awhile, just couldn't finish it. Finally did today, i'm pretty happy how she turned out, and where is Black Orchid in the New DC52? Will she eventually show up in My Greatest Adventure or something? ink, watercolors and a white out pen made this thing on 9x12 watercolor paper.

warm up in the swamp

okay, thats twentyone minutes of brush work, for my #10oCLOCKart friends and also swamp thing fans of course. picture isn't really done done, but a nice point so far, from just my head trying to pull parts out real quick without thinking a bunch.

teen surrealist

Did this last night as a vague warm-up kinda sketch from memory of someone i know (someone who used to be a teenager!) from Here I moved onto a little submission thing for a kinda big place that I won't tell about till it's out (or until it's not out then you get it) so there. this was all brush, I find unless I have a clear picture in my head of what I'm doing the brush is the easiest thing to use to pull ideas out. My favorite brush right now has been half chewed up by my dog and is missing half it's bristles, but it does exactly what I want. Thank twiggy! (my dog)

Okie Dokie Donuts!

I got my copies of Okie Dokie Donuts yesterday, and am super dooper thrilled with it! Fun story and art and too many donuts to try and count! (How many donuts are there in the book?) And most importantly to me, my daughter Piper loves it. This is her just after we finished reading it and enjoying a tiny donut I made for her.
Go check your local comic shop or go to the Top Shelf website to get a copy! The creator, Chris Eliopoulos really knows how to tell a funny story suitable for all ages and his manic energy and love of comics comes through on every page. Piper thought the Strawberry Socks flavored donuts were hilarious. Almost as much fun as real donuts!

black orchid sketch

My apologies to the fantastic Jill Thompson, I based this off her picture from the first issue of the vertigo black orchid series, I clearly remember turning the page to see this and being simply blown away, this was back in (quick googling) 1993, and would really open me to how many different and simply beautiful art styles there are in comics. I think from here I moved on to finding fantagraphics and drawn and quarterly, but this image has always stuck with me. So thanks Jill.

YOU DECIDE!

Do these photos prove that the Michael Mooney is in fact a real person and not just a cartoon figment of your imagination? Or do they prove that there is a growing army of Michael Mooney clones, intent on overwhelming the donut industry with supernatural baking skills?

And what does Big Mama of Okie Dokie Donuts have to do with all this?

Will there be a duel at ten paces with cream-puffs? Only time will tell friends, only time will tell.

I make progress on Donuts

So I'm almost done with this, gotta put a nice wash on the background and put some blacks in and some details, but this is what i've been doing. Not only am I promoting the best donuts in the world (the ones that come from Mooney's Bakery) but also the best illustrated donuts on the planet (the ones that come from Chris Eliopoulus )

watercolor needs to time to dry i have found.
