Redrawn Absolute Boyfriend
A fantastic exercise for warming up your drawing mussels is to redraw a random page that catches your eye. This morning I did a few from an old copy of Shojo Beat (the july 2007 issue if you must know) and thought I'd put this one up and send it to the redrawn tumblr too. If you never checked them out go and then send them something.
This page is from Act 25 of Absolute Boyfriend by Yuu Watase. The guy without glasses has shrunk to about four inches tall.

The First Level

This is my initial sketch with a brush and inkwash for the "I Draw Your Shit" Moebius tribute over on the electric ant zine site, for the final version I did in water color go check it out, and also there is a ton of amazing artists who contributed, each doing their take on a card originally drawn by the legendary artist who recently passed. Go take a look at these cause they are all top notch, and thanks to Mr. Ryan Sands for organizing the whole thing!

Avengelyne

So I did this picture using Owen Gieni's loose pencils he so generously provided on the Rob Liefeld message board (Right here) The Avengelyne comic relaunched last year and kicked off the Extreme studios thing that's going on with Prophet, Glory, Bloodstrike and of course Youngblood. It's a beautiful comic, Gieni has got some crazy details in his pictures. I inked over a print out of his art, then painted watercolors over that, and touched it up with more ink and a black micron pen.
Oh yeah, you wanna read the whole thing go check it out http://avengelyne.keenspot.com/
That's not a pirates secret stash of Avengelyne comics, that's the straight up thing, legal, legit and an incredibly awesome move by the creators.

Moebius Sketch

This week I am trying to get everything done for Buffalo Small Press Book Fair Show, with vague success in getting ready. This was a warm up ink sketch, maybe yesterday, maybe on the weekend, not real sure right now. Go check out the other girls entries here http://www.tentonstudios.com/forum/index.php?topic=9249.0

Moebius Tribute via Adventure Time Fanart

the weekly sketch challenge at Ten Ton Studios was Adventure Time! this week, though to be honest I've been feeling all lame and not so super ever since I heard that Moebius died. Not really sure how to say whatever I'm thinking. I never met him, only owned a couple of his books, but that was enough to mark me and to keep me always thinking of his art and the places it can take us.
The rest of the Ten Ton Studios entries.

Bill & Ted & Bert & Ernie

The weekly Ten Ton Studios sketch challenge is mash-up some movies. I wasn't quite sure what to do, then saw this guy named Nick Marino making mash-up jokes on the twitter, and one of them was Bill & Ted and Bert & Ernie, and he encouraged me to do it, and now we have this here, for better or worse.
But really, Nick is an awesome guy, he does a comic called Super Haters and does podcasts and has a sick obsession with... comic books. Go check him out and read some of his comics free on the INTERNET! http://www.nickmarino.net/

Buffalo Small Press Book Fair!
I will have a table here and being doing free sketches and have a box of mini-comics I have made, from my all ages stuff like Dinosaur Mystery Comics and Esther Egg to the definately not for kids Zombi bin Laden and some new stuff I'm still working on. I will also have some original framed paintings of different characters, Spider-Man, Daredevil and a few others. If you live in or near Buffalo come check it out and pick up some great books! http://www.buffalosmallpress.org/
Also I am going to do illustrated interviews with other cartoonists and writers and creative types. If any of you ever saw the interview with Paul Pope that he illustrated back in the early nineties in Advance Comics then you'll know what I'm talking about. If, more than likely, you never saw that, well it was really cool, made comics alive for me and showed what comics could be. Too often you say comics and people just think superheros or garfield, and while I have nothing against either of those things, comics are so much more than that.

Glory Vs hitler

So this is my watercolors of Glory, the new relaunch from Extreme Studios, I based my picture vaguely off the first issue of Captain America, the one where he's punching out hitler. I get to pick up my copy this weekend, and I am super excited to get it, been waiting for it since I first heard it was coming out a few months ago. I love the idea that Rob Liefeld is really opening up his Extreme universe to other creators with different visions of his creations, first with the Prophet book, which is also awesome now Glory and soon Bloodstrike too!
Thanks shout outs to Larry's Comics who is one of the big supporters of the #comicMarket on twitter, and of course the creators of this book Joe Keatinge and Ross Campbell. Keep punching those nazis everyone!

Make A Quick Prophet

Okay this is my take on the new John Prophet in what I thought would be ten minutes and quickly turned into a little longer, maybe 30? I dunno. I started with markers, then laid some inkwash over it, not done quite yet, but it needs to dry for a while before I do anything serious with it.
Also this is for the Drink and Draw at Larry's Comics, that apparently is in New England somewhere and makes comics marketing interns poo themselves in fear. (Seriously they do good stuff there, check out the #comicMarket hashtag next time you're on twitter) Can't wait till Saturday when I go pick up my comics and get the new issue of Prophet!
Where's Zombi bin Laden?

You might have noticed that some sites on the internet have fancy blacked out banners today and have vowed to stay that way for 24 hours to protest the SOPA & PIPA bills that threaten internet freedom. Wikipedia and wordpress got special fancy signs that tell you to tell congress not to support these bills. Even google put a big black censored bar over their normal logo (that's it? really? that's all google?) and you will notice if you check out the homepage for Zombi bin Laden that the page has been removed. That is the reality we face, not fancy banners and ads explaining this or that, just 404 errors and the like. I have tried to do something different with Zombi bin Laden and will continue my protest well past the 24 hour protest. The site is shut down, not coming back while we imagine what a real government backed shutdown will be like. No explanations, no everything back to normal hour, nothing.
The panel at the top is from an upcoming comic I am to be a part of, but goes along nicely with todays protests. How will government react to todays online protests? We have seen the violence used against the Occupation protesters, perhaps everyone who protests the SOPA & PIPA bills will be labeled as pirates and hackers and enemy combatants? Enemy combatants, as you know, can be American citizens and locked up without trial or charge indefinitely thanks to the recent language in the NDAA bill signed by president Obama. Good luck folks!

My first time in PREVIEWS!
Last time I picked up my comics from Books Galore me and Junior were in for a surprise as we found out that we were on the Free Comic Book Day insert for the December issue of Previews! That's of course me and Jr. and my wife is holding my little girl Piper in her Thor costume. So crazy cause Books Galore has hundreds of pictures from last Free Comic Book Day, and they picked ours for the flyer thing! Also I should have a table at Books Galore this year to do some free sketches for all the folks coming out for Free Comic Book Day! Hope to see you all there!

Strawberries Are Forever!

Here is Strawberry Girl from our wonderful friend Jason Fischer's comic Junqueland. The comic is a pretty intense ride through the rigors and sacrifices made by our nations forefathers and the wisdom with which they bore the labor of creating a nation from the wilds of the savage frontier. Oh wait, no wrong one...I'll do that again.
Junqueland is a porno comic about monsters who go hiking in the woods and meet some invisible fingers and things. Also Strawberry girl can make margaritas by squeezing her head, she is awesome. Go check out his stuff, he has got comics online to read and stuff you can order and is really plain old awesome sauce all over! http://www.studiojfish.com/ Go open your mind!
